Trolleys for the Hair Salon

A trolley is one of the pieces of furniture you use most during a working day, but it is also one of the items most often chosen too quickly. At Just Add People, you will find more than 40 trolleys and color trolleys, all selected to withstand daily use in a busy salon, with a focus on wheels, drawer space and materials that do not break after just a few months.

Guide: How to Choose the Right Trolley

Here are the most important things to consider when choosing a trolley for your salon.

1. Wheels That Can Actually Carry the Weight

A trolley should be easy to move between stations without wobbling or becoming difficult to push when the drawers are filled with tools and products. Look for wheels designed to support the trolley's full weight, not just the empty trolley, as a trolley with wheels that are too flimsy quickly becomes uncomfortable to move in practice. Hair-resistant wheels are an advantage in a salon, as standard wheels easily collect cut hair and become harder to turn throughout the day.

2. Drawers and Storage

The number of drawers determines how well you can keep scissors, combs, colors and other equipment organized without letting everything pile up on the worktop. If you use many different tools at the same time, several smaller drawers typically provide a better overview than a few large ones. A pull-out shelf is practical if you need extra space temporarily, for example for a hairdryer, without having to leave it out and take up space on top of the trolley.

3. Material: Steel or Plastic

Trolleys made from stainless steel or powder-coated steel withstand daily use significantly better than inexpensive plastic models, which can become unstable, fade or crack under normal loads over time. Steel is also easier to keep clean when exposed to hair color and chemicals, without becoming discolored or scratched over time. If you choose a model with a white powder-coated finish, you get a bright, modern look, while black suits a more classic salon style.

4. Lockable Drawers and Wheels

If you keep expensive equipment or regulated medication in your trolley, lockable drawers are worth prioritizing, so you do not have to worry about who has access outside opening hours. Lockable wheels are another practical detail that keeps the trolley firmly in place while you work, while still making it easy to move when you are finished. Not all models have both features, so check specifically if this is important to you rather than assuming they come as standard.

5. Price and Budget

If you need to equip several stations at once, the price difference between models can quickly add up. A simple model such as Lab 5 covers the basic need for drawer space without extra features, while a model such as D-Galley from Takara Belmont is at the premium end, with a continuous aluminum frame. The cheapest option is rarely the best in the long term if it means replacing the trolley more often, so weigh the price against how many years you expect to use it.

6. Trolley or Color Trolley

If the trolley will primarily be used for color treatments, a dedicated color trolley may be a better choice than a standard trolley. Color trolleys are typically designed with trays and compartments adapted for color bowls and brushes, rather than general drawers for mixed equipment. Some models attach directly to the client chair, saving floor space, while others are freestanding and can be moved between several stations as needed. If you use the same station for both cutting and coloring, a standard trolley with a single color tray can often be more practical than two separate pieces of furniture.

Popular Trolleys

Studio 3 from Comfortel is one of our best-selling trolleys, with three drawers and a pull-out shelf, and is available in several colors. Clara 2, also from Comfortel, is a popular budget-friendly choice with hair-resistant wheels. If you want to invest in the most exclusive option, D-Galley from Takara Belmont is our most premium trolley, with a continuous aluminum frame.

Trolleys with Locks

If you need to lock away your equipment, you will find our trolleys with locks gathered in a dedicated category. This is particularly relevant if several employees share the same space or if you store valuable tools that you do not want freely accessible outside working hours. Models such as Studio 4 and eNOBILE combine a lock with ample drawer space, so you do not have to choose between security and practical storage.

Color Trolleys

Our Color trolleys are specially designed for color treatments, with trays and storage adapted for color bowls, brushes and other accessories. Some models, such as BossCaddi, attach directly to the client chair, while others from Efalock and Kiela are freestanding and can be moved between stations as needed. This makes it easy to keep the color station separate from your other equipment, so you avoid getting hair color on tools that are not intended for color treatments.

Brands We Carry

We carry trolleys from Comfortel, which covers most budgets with a broad and versatile range, as well as Efalock and Mirplay, both of which offer strong color trolley ranges. If you want to invest in the most exclusive option, we also carry Takara Belmont and Kiela. If you are unsure which brand is best suited to your salon, you can view the complete brand overview and compare them across the range.

Choose the Right Furniture for Your Entire Station

A trolley works best when combined with the rest of your workstation. Consider matching your new trolley with hairdressing chairs that provide comfort during long working days, mirrors and hairdresser lighting that create the right atmosphere and accurate color rendering, or a color bar for organizing hair colors. If you want to optimize the washing area, you can also view our washing units. If you also offer cosmetology treatments, we have a dedicated category with clinical trolleys for these types of treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trolleys

What Is the Difference Between a Trolley and a Color Trolley?

A standard trolley is intended for general storage of scissors, combs and other equipment, and typically has several uniform drawers. A color trolley, on the other hand, is specially designed for color treatments, with trays and compartments adapted for color bowls and brushes, helping you avoid spills and clutter during mixing and application. If you will primarily use the trolley for hair color, a dedicated color trolley will often give you a better workflow than a general trolley, even though both can be used for either purpose in a busy working day. If you only have room for one piece of furniture per station, it is therefore worth considering which task the trolley primarily needs to handle.

Are Trolleys with Wheels Stable Enough for Daily Use?

Yes, provided the wheels are designed to support the full weight of a loaded trolley, not just the empty trolley. Most of our trolleys have hair-resistant wheels that roll easily while keeping the trolley stable as you work. Stability problems typically only occur with very inexpensive models with wheels that are too flimsy, or if the trolley is overloaded with significantly more weight than it is designed to carry. If you choose a model from one of our established brands, its stability has been tested for daily salon use.

Which Material Is Best, Steel or Plastic?

Steel, both stainless and powder-coated, withstands daily use significantly better than plastic, which can become unstable, fade or crack under normal loads in a busy salon over time. Steel is also easier to keep clean when exposed to hair color and chemicals, without becoming discolored or scratched as plastic often does after a few months of use. Plastic models can be a sensible temporary solution, but we generally recommend steel if the trolley needs to withstand several years of daily use in the salon.

Are There Affordable Trolleys That Still Withstand Daily Use?

Yes, but “affordable” should not be confused with “poor quality.” Our more budget-friendly models, such as Lab 5 and Workshop Deluxe 5, are still made from steel with durability in mind; they simply have fewer extra features such as locks or pull-out shelves than the more expensive models. If you need to equip several stations on a tight budget, it is often better to choose a simple steel model for all stations than to compromise on the material to save even more, as this typically means replacing the trolleys more frequently in the long run.

Can I Lock My Trolley?

Yes, several of our models have lockable drawers or lockable wheels, which you will find gathered in our category for trolleys with locks. This is particularly relevant if several employees share the same work area or if you store valuable tools or regulated medication that you do not want freely accessible outside opening hours. Not all trolleys have a lock as standard, so check the product page specifically if this is an important feature for you. If you need both a lock and a pull-out shelf, your options will typically be limited to the slightly more expensive models in the range.

Are Your Trolleys Also Suitable for Clinics and Cosmetologists?

Yes, several of our models work just as well in a clinic as in a hair salon, and we also carry a dedicated category with clinical trolleys if you have more specific needs for, for example, skincare or beauty treatments. If you perform several types of treatments in the same space, a versatile trolley can often meet your needs better than a narrowly specialized trolley, as you can use the same piece of furniture for multiple purposes instead of investing in separate trolleys for each type of treatment.

What Warranty Is Included with Trolleys?

You get at least a 2-year warranty on all trolleys and color trolleys, regardless of which brand or model you choose. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the frame, wheels, drawers and other moving parts, so you are covered if something breaks under normal use in a standard salon. Please note that our general 14-day right of return does not cover made-to-order items or products customized specifically for your order, which is worth keeping in mind if you choose a model with a customized color. If something does break within the warranty period, simply contact us and we will find the best solution together.
